Towards the end of October, the half-term holidays bring a short burst of activity, but for the most part, this is a quieter time on the island. It is what we locals call the shoulder season, when you can enjoy excellent weather and great value, all without the crowds.

The Greening Begins
October is one of our favourite months for hiking here on Lanzarote. The temperatures are just right, the trails are quieter, and the island is bathed in a soft, golden light. If you have the chance, we always recommend booking a guided walk through Timanfaya... it’s a truly memorable experience.
The gentle warmth of October is ideal for discovering Lanzarote’s coastline at a slower pace. We love taking a catamaran over to La Graciosa at this time of year – the sea is calm, the beaches are peaceful, and it’s easy to spend a whole day swimming, picnicking, or simply relaxing on the sand. If you fancy a bit of adventure, buggy tours are a real treat now that the heat has eased, letting you explore the volcanic landscape in comfort. The beaches stay inviting well into the afternoon, and for something a little different, a submarine safari is a fun way to see the island’s marine life up close, all without getting wet. As the sun sets, there’s nothing quite like watching a classic film at the open air cinema, with warm evenings and clear skies overhead.
October also marks the start of surf season on the north coast, with steady Atlantic waves rolling into Famara and La Santa. It’s a wonderful time for wine lovers too, as the grape harvest continues in La Geria. We always suggest visiting a local bodega to sample the island’s malvasia – it’s a real taste of Lanzarote Wine at its best.
