€1.76 Million Upgrade Planned for Key Puerto del Carmen Road

A major infrastructure project worth €1.76 million has been announced for Calle Noruega in Puerto del Carmen, with plans to transform one of the town’s busiest connecting roads into a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project will focus on the stretch of Calle Noruega between the Rambla Islas Canarias roundabout and Avenida de las Playas, improving safety for residents and the thousands of visitors who use the area every year.

Funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and led by Tías Town Council, the works have an estimated budget of €1,760,151.72. Companies interested in carrying out the project have until 4 August to submit their bids.

What improvements are planned?

The scheme is designed to encourage walking and cycling while making the road safer and more attractive. Planned improvements include:

  • New and wider pedestrian pavements.
  • Dedicated cycling infrastructure.
  • Improved street lighting.
  • Better accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
  • Landscaping and urban improvements.
  • Upgraded road safety features and crossings.

The renovation is expected to take around 12 months once construction begins.

Benefits for Residents and Tourists

Calle Noruega provides an important link between residential areas and Puerto del Carmen’s popular seafront. The improvements aim to make it easier and safer for both locals and holidaymakers to travel on foot or by bicycle, reducing reliance on cars for short journeys.

The investment also forms part of wider efforts to modernise public spaces across the municipality and promote more sustainable transport options.

While some temporary disruption is likely during construction, the completed project is expected to significantly improve the experience for everyone using this part of Puerto del Carmen.
