27-Year-Old Woman Hospitalised After Diving Accident in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote
A 27-year-old woman has been taken to hospital in serious condition following a diving accident in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote.
The incident happened on Thursday, 27 August 2026, after the woman had completed a dive in the Playa Blanca area of the municipality of Yaiza.
According to information released by the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112), an emergency call was received at approximately 3:51pm, reporting that a person required medical assistance following a diving accident.
Diver treated at the scene
A medical coordinator from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) assessed the information received and dispatched a medicalised ambulance to the scene.
When emergency medical personnel arrived, the 27-year-old woman was found to be suffering from symptoms described as incomplete drowning.
She was treated and stabilised by medical staff before being transported by medicalised ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Lanzarote, where she was admitted in serious condition.
The hospital in Arrecife is the island’s main public hospital and receives patients requiring more advanced medical treatment from across Lanzarote.
Guardia Civil and Local Police also attended
The emergency response also involved officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police.
Both police services assisted the emergency operation and carried out the appropriate procedures relating to the incident.
At the time of reporting, authorities had not released further details about exactly what happened during the dive.
There has also been no official confirmation of whether the incident was connected to equipment, a medical problem, diving conditions or another factor.
