A man accused of seriously stabbing his partner at their home in Arrecife is due to face trial at the Provincial Court of Las Palmas, with prosecutors seeking a prison sentence of around 15 years.
The case concerns an alleged attack in Lanzarote in March 2025. According to the prosecution’s account, the woman was in a bedroom at the property when she was allegedly attacked with a knife and suffered three stab wounds to the neck.
The allegations have been reported by Spanish news agencies and local media ahead of the scheduled court proceedings. The accused denies no facts here are assumed: the allegations remain matters for the court to determine, and the defendant must be presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
What is alleged to have happened?
The prosecution says the woman managed to call the emergency services after the incident. When officers arrived at the Arrecife property, the accused was reportedly still inside. The woman told officers she could not open the door because she did not have the keys, according to the prosecution’s account.
The injuries described in the prosecution’s case were serious and required medical and surgical treatment. Prosecutors state that the woman needed 152 days for her injuries to heal and stabilise. They also report lasting effects, including visible scarring and psychological consequences associated with post-traumatic stress.
What sentence is being requested?
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a prison term of 15 years and one day for attempted murder, with aggravating circumstances relating to the relationship between the parties and gender. It is also seeking compensation of €100,000 for the victim and a 20-year prohibition on the accused approaching or contacting her. These are requests made by the prosecution, not a sentence already imposed by the court.
The accused has reportedly been held in provisional custody since 10 March 2025. The case is scheduled to be heard by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas during the week of 26 October 2026; local reporting has identified Thursday 29 October as the scheduled hearing date.
A reminder about responsible reporting
Cases involving alleged domestic violence are deeply serious and can have lasting physical and emotional consequences for those affected. It is important to distinguish between allegations presented by prosecutors and findings made by a court, and to avoid sharing unverified claims about the people involved.
For residents and visitors looking for Lanzarote news, this case is a court matter concerning an alleged incident in Arrecife. It does not indicate a general risk to tourists visiting the island. Anyone facing immediate danger should contact emergency services.
