Arrecife Launches Investigation After Damage Found at Newly Restored Plaza de Las Palmas
The Arrecife City Council has opened an investigation after significant damage was discovered at the recently restored Plaza de Las Palmas, just months after the popular square reopened following renovation works.
The damage, which appears to have affected part of the newly completed public space, was identified in recent days and has prompted the local authority to begin looking into how it occurred. Images shared online show broken paving and debris scattered across an area of the square.
The restoration of Plaza de Las Palmas formed part of a wider project to improve one of Arrecife’s most historic and frequently visited public spaces, located beside the Church of San Ginés. The works were designed to enhance the square while preserving its character, creating a more attractive area for both residents and visitors.
The council has not yet confirmed the exact cause of the damage or whether it was the result of vandalism, an accident, or a structural issue. Officials are expected to assess the extent of the repairs required and determine who may be responsible.
An investigation is now underway, with the Ayuntamiento stating that the priority is to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure the square is restored as quickly as possible.
The incident has sparked disappointment among many local residents, particularly given the recent investment in improving the area.
