Canary Islands Health Apps Change: What Residents and Visitors in Lanzarote Need to Know

The Canary Islands Health Service (Servicio Canario de la Salud – SCS) has introduced an important update to its digital healthcare system, bringing several services together under a single mobile application. The change affects anyone who uses the public healthcare system in the Canary Islands, including many residents in Lanzarote and long-term visitors who are registered with local health services.

miCitaPrevia and miHistoria Have Been Replaced

From September 2026, the standalone miCitaPrevia and miHistoria apps are no longer operating independently. Instead, their services have been integrated into the miSCS app, which now serves as the main digital healthcare platform for the Canary Islands.

Anyone attempting to access the older apps will be redirected to miSCS, where they can continue managing healthcare appointments and accessing personal medical information.

What Can You Do with miSCS?

The updated miSCS app allows users to:

  • Book, modify and cancel Primary Care appointments.
  • Access medical reports and clinical records.
  • View diagnostic test and laboratory results.
  • Check treatment plans and medication information.
  • Access vaccination records.
  • View health card information digitally.
  • Receive health-related notifications and reminders.

The goal is to make healthcare services easier to access by bringing everything together in one place rather than requiring multiple applications.

Will Existing Users Need to Register Again?

For most appointment-related services, the answer is no.

People who previously used miCitaPrevia can continue managing appointments using the same access method they used before, including their Individual Health Card (TSI) number and verification code. No additional registration process is required simply to book or manage appointments.

However, users who wish to access sensitive medical information, such as clinical histories and medical reports, will need to verify their identity through approved digital identification systems, including Cl@ve, a digital certificate, or miIdentidad Digital.

Why This Matters for Lanzarote Residents

Many residents in Lanzarote rely on the Canary Islands public health system for routine appointments, prescriptions and access to medical records. The consolidation into a single app is designed to simplify the process and reduce confusion caused by having several different healthcare applications.

If you already have miSCS installed on your phone, healthcare authorities recommend checking that you are running the latest version to ensure all services are available.

What About Tourists?

Short-term holidaymakers visiting Lanzarote are unlikely to need the app unless they are registered with the Spanish public healthcare system or are long-stay visitors with access to local healthcare services.

However, expatriates, second-home owners, digital nomads and long-term residents who use the Canary Islands Health Service should familiarise themselves with miSCS, as it is now the primary gateway for accessing digital healthcare services across the islands.

A Step Towards Digital Healthcare in the Canary Islands

The move forms part of the Canary Islands’ wider strategy to modernise public healthcare services and improve access to patient information through digital tools. By centralising appointments, health records and healthcare notifications within a single platform, authorities hope to create a more streamlined experience for users throughout Lanzarote and the rest of the archipelago.
