CANARY ISLANDS WEATHER: UNSETTLED SUNDAY AS RAIN AND STORMS APPROACH
Visitors and residents across the Canary Islands are being advised to keep an eye on the weather this Sunday, 1 November, as a low-pressure system brings a more unsettled start to November.
The change follows the familiar shift from the islands’ drier summer conditions towards more changeable autumn weather. Cloud, showers and the possibility of thunderstorms are expected in parts of the archipelago, although conditions are not forecast to be the same on every island.
WEATHER WARNINGS FOCUS ON THE WESTERN ISLANDS
The Canary Islands Government has updated its weather precautions as the system approaches. The latest official information places Tenerife’s metropolitan area and parts of La Palma under a rain alert, while pre-alerts cover other western islands and areas of Gran Canaria. Thunderstorm activity is also possible, and the authorities say the forecast may change as the system develops.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in areas of Tenerife and La Palma, where locally intense downpours could lead to difficult conditions. Showers may be unevenly distributed, so weather can vary considerably between resorts, inland areas and higher ground.
LANZAROTE AND FUERTEVENTURA: WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
For Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the forecast is more moderate. Cloudy skies and the chance of occasional showers are expected, with temperatures remaining relatively mild. Light calima may also affect visibility or give the sky a hazier appearance.
Importantly, the latest regional update does not place Lanzarote among the islands covered by the current rain alert or pre-alert. That does not rule out a passing shower, and conditions should still be checked locally before travelling or planning outdoor activities.
A CHANGEABLE DAY DOESN’T MEAN A HOLIDAY WASHOUT
A spell of unsettled Canary Islands weather does not necessarily mean continuous rain. Showers can be localised, and brighter intervals may develop between them. If you are staying in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca, it is worth keeping plans flexible and checking the latest forecast before heading out.
This can be a good opportunity to enjoy Lanzarote’s indoor attractions, museums, cafés and restaurants, or simply take a slower day. If you are planning a drive around the island, allow extra time and be prepared for changing conditions away from the coast.
WEATHER SAFETY: A FEW SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS
During heavy rain, avoid walking or driving through flooded areas and never attempt to cross a flowing barranco. If thunderstorms develop, stay away from exposed high ground and follow any local closures or instructions. Along the coast, take care near wave-washed rocks, seawalls and promenades if sea conditions become rough.
For urgent emergencies in the Canary Islands, call 112. For weather updates, consult AEMET and official Canary Islands emergency information rather than relying solely on social media posts.
CHECK THE LATEST LANZAROTE WEATHER FORECAST
The situation remains subject to change as the weather system moves across the archipelago. Residents and holidaymakers should check the latest Lanzarote weather forecast and official alerts before making plans, particularly if travelling between islands or heading into the mountains.
