TWO RECYCLING CONTAINERS DESTROYED IN PLAYA BLANCA FIRE
A fire damaged two recycling containers in Playa Blanca on Saturday evening, October 31, prompting an emergency response in the heart of the popular Lanzarote resort.
The incident took place on Europa Street at approximately 8:10pm. According to information from Lanzarote’s Emergency Consortium, the containers—one intended for cardboard and the other for packaging—were fully alight when emergency services were alerted through CECOES.
Firefighters attended and extinguished the flames using water. Local Police also arrived, secured the area and completed the relevant report.
The incident affected recycling facilities in an urban part of Playa Blanca, a busy tourist town in the south of Lanzarote. The containers involved were specifically used for separating cardboard and packaging, materials that residents and visitors are encouraged to recycle as part of everyday waste management on the island.
The reported response brought the fire under control. Further details about the cause of the blaze or any suspected involvement have not been confirmed in the information available at the time of writing.
For residents and holidaymakers, the incident is a reminder to use recycling points responsibly and to report fires or other emergencies promptly. Anyone who sees a fire should keep a safe distance and contact emergency services rather than attempting to tackle it themselves.
