Christmas Comes to La Villa: Teguise Opens Applications for Its 2026 Christmas Market

La Villa de Teguise is getting ready for one of the most anticipated events of the festive season, with applications now open for the 2026 Christmas Market.
If you are planning a Christmas holiday in Lanzarote, or you're a resident looking for something festive to enjoy, La Villa de Teguise is set to be a particularly attractive place to visit over the December long weekend.
The Teguise Christmas Market 2026 will take place from 3 to 8 December, bringing stalls, food and festive shopping into the historic heart of one of Lanzarote's most atmospheric towns.

35 Christmas market stalls planned for La Villa

The Ayuntamiento de Teguise has announced plans for 35 wooden market stalls, divided across three different categories.
There will be:
- 8 stalls for local crafts and artisan products
- 17 stalls selling Christmas-related products, gifts and other handcrafted items
- 10 stalls dedicated to hospitality and food
There will also be space for five mobile vendors and four food trucks, adding even more choice for visitors looking for something to eat and drink while exploring the market.
For visitors, that should make the Christmas Market in Teguise much more than somewhere to browse for presents. It is being designed as a festive experience combining shopping, food, local businesses and the historic surroundings of La Villa.

Where will the Teguise Christmas Market be?

The 2026 Christmas Market in La Villa de Teguise will spread across three central locations: Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza Clavijo y Fajardo and Plaza Maciot de Bethencourt.
The setting is a major part of the appeal. La Villa de Teguise is one of the island's most historic destinations, and its traditional streets and buildings provide a very different backdrop to the resort areas of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.
The market is scheduled to open generally from 11:00am until 9:30pm. On Sunday 6 December, opening time will be brought forward to 10:00am.
That makes it an appealing option for both a daytime family outing and an evening Christmas wander.

A chance to support Lanzarote's local businesses

While Christmas markets are popular with tourists, this event is also important for businesses and artisans based on Lanzarote.
The market is being organised jointly by the municipality's Commerce and Tourism departments, with the stated aim of supporting commercial activity, local employment, crafts and gastronomy while bringing more visitors into the historic centre.
For anyone who prefers buying something a little different from the usual high-street Christmas present, the artisan element could be particularly interesting.
And for tourists wanting to take home something that reminds them of their Lanzarote holiday, local crafts and island-inspired products can make much more memorable gifts than something picked up in a conventional souvenir shop.

Food will be part of the experience

Food is also expected to play a big role in the Teguise Christmas Market.
Ten of the permanent stalls have been allocated to hospitality and gastronomy, alongside the additional food trucks and mobile food vendors.
Anyone visiting can therefore combine Christmas shopping with a bite to eat, making the event an easy addition to a day exploring La Villa de Teguise.
It's also another opportunity to discover the island's food scene while supporting local operators.

Why tourists should put Teguise on their Christmas itinerary

For holidaymakers staying in Lanzarote in December, La Villa offers something quite different from the island's beach resorts.
Rather than spending the entire Christmas holiday around the pool or on the beach, a trip to the historic capital of Teguise provides the chance to experience some of the island's traditional architecture and atmosphere while enjoying a seasonal event.
The Christmas market could be particularly appealing to families, couples and anyone looking for things to do in Lanzarote at Christmas.
And because the event runs for six days, visitors have several opportunities to fit it into their holiday plans.

What local traders need to know

The announcement isn't just aimed at shoppers.
Local Lanzarote artisans, retailers and hospitality businesses can apply to take part in the market.
For the craft category, applicants must be registered with the Official Crafts Registry of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Businesses selling food must also meet the relevant food-handling and health requirements.
The municipality says applications that meet the required conditions will be allocated according to the order in which applications are submitted through the general registry.
The council is providing successful stallholders with an individual wooden unit measuring 3 metres wide by 2 metres deep, including an electrical connection, interior lighting, an external sign displaying the stall name and night-time security for the outside market area.

Another reason to visit La Villa in December

The Teguise Christmas Market 2026 is shaping up to be another highlight of the Lanzarote festive calendar.
With 35 stalls, food trucks, mobile vendors, Christmas shopping and local crafts, the event should give both residents and visitors another reason to head inland and experience La Villa during the festive season.
If you're staying in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise or elsewhere in Lanzarote, it's certainly one to add to your December plans.
And if you're a Lanzarote resident, it could be the perfect opportunity to pick up some unusual Christmas gifts while supporting independent island businesses at the same time.
So, if you're looking for things to do in Lanzarote this Christmas, make a note of 3–8 December 2026 and put La Villa de Teguise on the list.
