DNI Renewal in Tías: Mobile Police Unit Returns to Lanzarote on 29 September
If you live in Tías and your Spanish DNI is due for renewal, there is another opportunity to deal with the paperwork locally without travelling to a permanent documentation office.
The Policía Nacional mobile documentation unit will return to Tías on Tuesday 29 September 2026, bringing DNI services directly to the municipality.
The service is particularly useful for local residents who need to renew or obtain their Documento Nacional de Identidad and would otherwise have to make a separate journey for the appointment.
When and where will the DNI service take place?
The mobile unit, known as the VIDOC (Vehículo Integral de Documentación), will be stationed outside the Policía Local de Tías during the morning of Tuesday 29 September.
According to the latest information published on the service, appointments will be attended until 13:15.
Anyone wanting to use the Tías DNI service must arrange an appointment in advance. The Policía Local de Tías is taking appointment requests by telephone on 928 834 101, during the morning telephone period of 09:00 to 13:00.
This is an appointment-only service, so turning up without a confirmed appointment should not be relied upon.
What is the VIDOC mobile documentation unit?
The VIDOC is designed to take documentation services closer to residents in municipalities without a permanent documentation office.
The unit was officially presented in Tías in December 2025 and has subsequently returned to the municipality on several occasions. It contains the equipment needed to carry out the document-production process, allowing the DNI to be dealt with locally rather than requiring a separate trip elsewhere for the physical production of the document.
The programme is the result of cooperation between the Policía Nacional and Policía Local de Tías.
What do you need to take with you?
For a normal DNI renewal, the Ministry of the Interior states that applicants must attend in person and provide a recent colour photograph meeting the required DNI format. The current DNI should also be taken to the appointment.
If your address has changed, additional documentation may be required to prove the new address. The official Ministry of the Interior guidance should be checked before attending, particularly if your circumstances are different from a straightforward renewal.
For a first DNI application, the documentation requirements are different and include birth-registration documentation and proof of address.
How much does DNI renewal cost?
The standard DNI issue and renewal fee is currently €12.
For the Tías mobile service, the local announcement advises applicants to bring the exact amount in cash. It is therefore sensible to have €12 ready before attending rather than assuming other payment methods will be available in the mobile unit.
Some people can qualify for an exemption from the standard fee, including qualifying members of large families (familias numerosas). The Ministry of the Interior also lists other specific circumstances in which the fee can be free.
Who is this service for?
It is important to remember that the DNI is Spain's national identity document for Spanish citizens. This particular service is therefore not a general NIE or TIE renewal service for foreign residents or visitors to Lanzarote.
For Spanish residents in Tías, however, a local mobile DNI appointment can save a journey and make an otherwise routine administrative job considerably more convenient.
A useful reminder for residents
If your DNI is approaching its expiry date, it is worth checking the date rather than leaving the renewal until the last minute. The Ministry of the Interior says a DNI renewal can normally be requested during the final 180 days of its validity.
Appointments for the Tías mobile unit are limited, so residents who need the service should contact the Policía Local as soon as possible rather than waiting until the day itself.
Please check the appointment details with the Policía Local de Tías before travelling, as local arrangements and available appointments can change.
For official DNI requirements and current national guidance, consult the Spanish Ministry of the Interior and Policía Nacional before attending.
