Fire Breaks Out Again at Costa Teguise’s Abandoned Hotel
Firefighters were called out on Monday afternoon after a fire broke out inside one of the unfinished hotel buildings, commonly known locally as the “hotel skeletons”, on Avenida de Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise. The blaze was brought under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.
Emergency services received the alert shortly before 3pm after smoke was seen rising from inside the abandoned development. Crews from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium attended the scene and discovered that the fire was confined to a small wooden structure located within the fenced construction site.
Using a combination of water spray and direct jets, firefighters extinguished the flames within minutes before carrying out thorough checks to ensure there was no risk of the fire reigniting. Once the area was declared safe, the crew returned to base. Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident.
A Familiar Location for Emergency Services
The unfinished hotel developments in Costa Teguise have long been a concern for local residents and authorities. The abandoned structures have attracted repeated emergency call-outs over the years, including fires and other safety-related incidents.
While the latest blaze was relatively minor and quickly contained, it highlights the ongoing challenges associated with maintaining security at long-abandoned construction sites.
No Risk to Nearby Tourist Areas
Visitors staying in Costa Teguise should be reassured that the incident was contained within the abandoned building site and did not affect nearby hotels, apartments, restaurants or public areas. Firefighters responded rapidly, preventing the blaze from spreading beyond the wooden structure.
Authorities have not reported the cause of the fire, and there has been no indication of any wider danger to residents or tourists.
