Firefighters Prevent Grass Fire From Spreading Near Yaiza on Friday Night
Firefighters were called into action on Friday night (10 July) after a grass fire broke out near the municipality of Yaiza in southern Lanzarote.
The emergency was reported by the Local Police after several residents spotted flames in the area. When firefighters arrived, they confirmed that the blaze had spread across approximately 300 square metres of dry vegetation.
Using fire beaters and other firefighting equipment, crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control before fully extinguishing it, preventing it from spreading to nearby land.
Officers from the Local Police and the Civil Guard assisted firefighters throughout the operation, helping to ensure the area remained safe while the fire was tackled.
Although relatively small in size, the incident serves as another reminder of how quickly fires can develop during Lanzarote’s hot, dry summer months. Even a minor spark can ignite dry grass and vegetation, particularly when accompanied by wind.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid lighting barbecues or fires in unauthorised areas, dispose of cigarette ends responsibly, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling the emergency services.
Fortunately, thanks to the rapid response of the emergency teams, the fire was contained before causing any significant damage or threatening nearby properties.
