Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Laundry Room Fire at Sand Beach Hotel in Costa Teguise
Firefighters were called to the Sand Beach Hotel in Costa Teguise during the early hours of Tuesday after a fire broke out in the hotel’s laundry room, prompting a swift emergency response.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:20am, when the hotel’s security guard spotted thick black smoke coming from the laundry area and immediately alerted the Canary Islands emergency services.
Fire crews from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium arrived within minutes and were met by the security guard, who guided them to the semi-basement laundry room. Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the smoke-filled area, disconnected the electrical supply and located the source of the fire.
The blaze was confined to an area of approximately one square metre but caused damage to electrical wiring, electric motors and other equipment within the laundry room. Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames before ventilating the building to clear the smoke and carrying out thorough checks to ensure there was no risk of the fire reigniting.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the quick thinking of the hotel’s security guard, together with the rapid response from Lanzarote’s firefighters, prevented the incident from becoming far more serious.
Before leaving the scene, emergency crews advised hotel staff not to restore power to the affected area until the damaged electrical installation had been professionally inspected. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Although any hotel fire can understandably cause concern, this incident was quickly brought under control and there were no reported injuries to guests or staff. Hotels across Lanzarote are equipped with comprehensive fire safety systems, and the island’s emergency services are well trained to respond rapidly to incidents such as this.
