Lanzarote Airport Breaks Passenger Record as More Than 800,000 Travellers Arrive in July 2026

Lanzarote Airport Reaches a Historic Milestone

Lanzarote has reached another significant tourism milestone after César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport welcomed more than 800,000 passengers during July 2026, making it the busiest July ever recorded at the island’s airport.

Official airport figures show that 800,545 passengers travelled through the airport during the month, marking the first time the 800,000-passenger barrier has been broken in July. While the increase compared with July last year was modest at around 0.2%, the achievement highlights the continued strength and resilience of Lanzarote’s tourism industry.

For an island with a permanent population of around 160,000 people, welcoming over 800,000 air passengers in a single month demonstrates just how important tourism remains to the local economy.

A Positive Sign for Tourism in Lanzarote

The latest figures reinforce Lanzarote’s position as one of the Canary Islands’ most popular holiday destinations.

Visitors continue to be attracted by the island’s:

  • Year-round sunshine
  • Beautiful beaches
  • Volcanic landscapes
  • Outdoor activities
  • Family-friendly resorts
  • Excellent flight connections with the UK and mainland Europe

The summer season traditionally brings higher passenger numbers, but reaching this new record shows demand for holidays in Lanzarote remains exceptionally strong.

What Does This Mean for Visitors?

For tourists planning a holiday in Lanzarote, higher passenger numbers may mean:

  • Busier airport terminals during peak arrival and departure times.
  • Increased demand for car hire.
  • Popular beaches and attractions becoming busier during the summer months.
  • Greater demand for restaurants, excursions and accommodation.

Despite the record numbers, Lanzarote continues to offer plenty of quieter areas away from the busiest tourist hotspots for visitors looking for a more relaxed holiday.

Good News for Local Businesses

The increase in visitor numbers is welcome news for businesses across the island.

Hotels, holiday apartments, restaurants, bars, excursion companies, car rental firms and local shops all benefit from strong tourism throughout the summer season.

Higher visitor numbers also help support employment across many sectors that rely heavily on tourism, which remains one of Lanzarote’s largest economic drivers.

Part of a Strong Month Across the Canary Islands

Lanzarote wasn’t alone in experiencing a busy month.

Across the Canary Islands, airports handled almost 4.7 million passengers during July, with Gran Canaria remaining the busiest airport in the archipelago, followed by Tenerife South and Lanzarote.

While some islands recorded stronger year-on-year growth than others, Lanzarote’s achievement was unique in setting a new all-time July passenger record for the airport.

Looking Ahead

Passenger demand is expected to remain strong throughout the remainder of the summer and into the autumn season, with Lanzarote continuing to attract visitors seeking reliable sunshine, outdoor activities and a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

As airlines continue operating extensive routes between Lanzarote and destinations across Europe, the island looks well placed to maintain its popularity with both returning visitors and first-time holidaymakers.
