Lanzarote Approves New Regulations to Guarantee Taxi Services at Airport and Port
Lanzarote’s Cabildo has approved a new set of regulations designed to ensure that taxi services remain available at the island’s busiest transport hubs during periods of high demand.
The new measures focus on improving taxi availability at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport and the Port of Arrecife, particularly during peak arrival times when long queues and waiting times have become a common frustration for both residents and visitors.
The regulations establish a framework allowing taxi services to be better coordinated across the island’s municipalities when demand exceeds the capacity of local fleets. This will enable taxis from other licensed areas to temporarily assist at critical locations, helping reduce delays and ensuring passengers can access transport more quickly.
Island officials say the move is intended to create a more flexible and efficient taxi system while maintaining the quality and legality of the service. The regulations also provide clear procedures for activating these measures only when necessary, such as during busy holiday periods, cruise ship arrivals, flight delays or other exceptional circumstances.
The Cabildo believes the new framework will improve mobility across Lanzarote and strengthen the island’s transport network, particularly as tourism continues to grow.
For travellers, the changes should mean shorter waiting times and a more reliable taxi service when arriving at the airport or disembarking from cruise ships in Arrecife.
The regulations were approved on 17 July 2026 and are expected to help improve the overall passenger experience while supporting better coordination between the island’s municipalities and taxi operators.
