Lanzarote Braces for New Heatwave as Temperatures Could Reach 38°C Next Week
Residents and visitors in Lanzarote are being advised to prepare for another spell of intense summer weather, with forecasts indicating that temperatures could climb as high as 38°C in parts of the island from the beginning of next week.
According to current forecasts, a mass of hot air is expected to move across the Canary Islands, bringing a noticeable rise in temperatures from Monday onwards. Inland areas and sheltered locations are expected to experience the highest temperatures, while coastal resorts may remain slightly cooler thanks to sea breezes.
Hotter Days Ahead
After a relatively typical start to July, forecasters are predicting a significant increase in daytime temperatures, with highs expected to build steadily before peaking around Tuesday. Some weather models are forecasting values close to 38°C in Lanzarote, making it one of the hottest periods of the summer so far.
Warm overnight temperatures are also expected, meaning there may be little relief after sunset in some areas. These conditions can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for young children, older adults and anyone spending long periods outdoors.
Advice for Tourists and Residents
Whether you’re on holiday or live on the island, it’s worth taking a few extra precautions during periods of extreme heat:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunshine during the hottest hours, usually between midday and late afternoon.
- Wear lightweight clothing, sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
- If you’re hiking or exploring Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes, start early in the morning and carry plenty of water.
Beachgoers should also remember that although the sea offers welcome relief, the sun’s UV levels remain extremely high, even when there is a cooling breeze.
Forecast Could Still Change
As with all longer-range weather forecasts, temperatures may vary slightly over the coming days. However, current indications suggest that Lanzarote is likely to experience one of its hottest spells of the year, so anyone planning outdoor activities should keep an eye on the latest official forecasts before travelling.
