Lanzarote Craft Fair 2026 attracts 77,500 visitors in six days

The 37th Lanzarote Craft Fair has ended on a high note, with 77,500 visitors counted during the six-day event at Mancha Blanca in Tinajo.

Held from 10 to 15 September 2026, the Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote once again brought traditional island craftsmanship, culture and local heritage together, attracting both Lanzarote residents and tourists.

For anyone looking for authentic things to do in Lanzarote, the annual craft fair has become an important date in the island's events calendar.

A major showcase for Canarian crafts

This year's Lanzarote Craft Fair brought together around 140 artisans, groups and participating organisations. The event provided a large showcase for traditional crafts from across the Canary Islands, while also giving visitors the opportunity to meet makers and see how some products are created.

The organisers had expected more than 70,000 visitors before the event began, but the final figure reached 77,500 people counted across the six days.

The strong attendance highlights the continuing interest in handmade products, traditional skills and Lanzarote's cultural heritage.

The sombrera takes centre stage

One of the main themes of the 2026 Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote was the sombrera and the traditional hats made from natural plant fibres.

The exhibition focused on the skills and detailed techniques involved in making these traditional pieces, which have historical links with agricultural life and the cultural identity of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The fair also included the return of "La Herencia en las Manos" – The Heritage in Our Hands – which gives veteran artisans an opportunity to demonstrate traditional trades and pass their knowledge on to younger generations.

For visitors, this added something beyond simply shopping. It offered a chance to understand the time, skill and history behind many of the handmade items on display.

Uruguay joins the Lanzarote event

The 2026 Lanzarote Craft Fair also had an international element, with Uruguay invited as the guest country.

Six Uruguayan artisans were included in the programme, bringing examples of their own craft traditions and adding an international dimension to an event that remains strongly rooted in Canarian culture.

The combination of local craftsmanship and international participation helped broaden the cultural programme at Mancha Blanca while keeping traditional skills at its heart.

More than shopping

Although buying handmade products is an important part of the Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote, the six-day programme offered considerably more.

Visitors could see craft demonstrations, take part in educational activities and enjoy a programme linked to Lanzarote's culture, traditions and heritage.

The second Lanzarote Craftsmanship Awards also took place during the event. The awards recognised areas including career achievements, generational succession and contributions to the island's craft sector.

There was also a strong literary element. The Cabildo's Publications Service took part alongside publishers belonging to the Isla Literaria association, selling more than 200 books during the fair.

The most requested title was "La tunera y sus productos. El cultivo de la cochinilla en Lanzarote", a publication exploring the historical, agricultural and ethnographic importance of prickly pear and cochineal cultivation on the island.

Crafts and sustainability

Sustainability also featured at the 2026 Lanzarote Craft Fair.

Lanzarote Recicla had a dedicated space where visitors could learn about waste separation, the circular economy, home composting and ways of reducing waste.

There were also practical demonstrations showing how discarded materials can be given a second life. Paper and cardboard recycling workshops were held by Turba de Papel, while Mel & San demonstrated upcycling techniques using plastics from disposable packaging to create accessories.

This was a natural fit for an event centred on making, repairing, reusing and valuing materials.

Why the Lanzarote Craft Fair matters

For tourists, the Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote offers a different way to experience the island. Lanzarote is well known for its volcanic landscapes, beaches, restaurants and outdoor activities, but its cultural traditions are an equally important part of the island's character.

For residents, the fair provides a chance to support local makers and discover traditional skills that have been passed from one generation to the next.

The 77,500 visitors counted in 2026 also demonstrate the scale the event has reached. With hundreds of people involved in making, demonstrating, organising and supporting the fair, its impact extends beyond the exhibition stands themselves.

A date to remember for future Lanzarote visits

The 37th Lanzarote Craft Fair has now finished for 2026, but its popularity means it remains one of the Lanzarote events worth keeping an eye on for future visits.

If you are planning a holiday in Lanzarote and want to experience more than the usual tourist attractions, checking the dates of the next Feria de Artesanía de Lanzarote could be worthwhile.

From traditional Canarian crafts and handmade gifts to cultural demonstrations and local food and drink, events such as this offer visitors an opportunity to see another side of Lanzarote.

And with 77,500 people counted at this year's six-day event, it is clear that the island's traditional crafts continue to attract plenty of interest from both locals and visitors.
