Lanzarote Launches €500,000 Renewable Energy Grant Scheme – What Residents and Businesses Need to Know
The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced a new €500,000 renewable energy grant programme designed to help both residents and businesses invest in solar panels and small-scale wind energy systems across Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The funding aims to encourage more property owners to generate their own clean electricity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower long-term energy costs while supporting the island’s transition towards a more sustainable future.
Grants Could Cover Up to 50% of Installation Costs
Successful applicants may receive funding covering up to 50% of eligible installation costs, with a maximum grant of €3,000 per project.
The scheme applies to qualifying renewable energy installations completed from 11 October 2025 onwards, providing they meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Cabildo.
What Projects Are Included?
The funding is available for several types of renewable energy projects, including:
- Solar photovoltaic systems on properties connected to the electricity grid.
- Renewable energy systems for buildings that are not connected to the grid.
- Grid-connected solar installations that also include battery storage systems.
Each category has different funding calculations, although the overall grant remains capped at 50% of the project cost and €3,000 maximum per application.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to both:
- Individual homeowners.
- Businesses and other legal entities carrying out eligible renewable energy projects in Lanzarote or La Graciosa.
Applications will be assessed using a competitive points system rather than on a simple first-come, first-served basis.
Priority will generally be given to:
- First homes.
- New renewable energy installations.
- Large families.
- Applicants on lower incomes.
Where applications receive the same score, submission date may then be taken into account.
Application Deadline
The application period is open now and is scheduled to close on 21 September, giving eligible property owners several weeks to prepare the required documentation.
Applications can be submitted electronically or in person through the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, which is assisting with the administration of the programme.
Why These Grants Matter
With electricity prices remaining a major concern for many households and businesses, renewable energy continues to grow in popularity across the Canary Islands.
Installing solar panels can significantly reduce electricity bills while also helping to cut carbon emissions. Battery storage systems can further increase savings by allowing excess electricity generated during the day to be used after sunset.
Previous renewable energy grant schemes on the island proved extremely popular, with strong demand leading to hundreds of successful applications, highlighting the growing interest in energy self-sufficiency throughout Lanzarote.
Final Thoughts
As funding is limited and applications are assessed competitively, eligible residents and businesses are encouraged to begin preparing their applications well before the 21 September deadline.
