Lanzarote Police Officers Celebrate 22-Medal Success at European Games
Two members of Lanzarote’s local police forces have returned from an international sporting competition with an impressive 22 medals, bringing a moment of sporting pride to Arrecife, Tías and the island as a whole.
The officers competed at the 11th European Police and Fire Games, held in Vigo in north-west Spain from 9 to 18 October 2026. The event brought together around 3,000 people working in policing, firefighting and emergency services from approximately 40 countries.
A remarkable medal haul for Lanzarote
The Lanzarote representatives collected 17 gold medals and five silver medals between them. Officer J.L.Q. of Arrecife Local Police won 10 medals, while officer L.F.P. of Tías Local Police took home 12. The pair also secured gold together in the CrossFit RX pairs competition.
Their results showcased strength and versatility across several demanding disciplines, including weightlifting, powerlifting, CrossFit and precision shooting.
Success across multiple sports
The Arrecife officer’s 10-medal tally included four golds in weightlifting events and a gold in the powerlifting deadlift. Three silver medals came in powerlifting categories. The officer also won gold in individual RX CrossFit and in the pairs RX event.
The Tías officer won gold medals across weightlifting and powerlifting events, as well as in individual and pairs RX CrossFit. Two silver medals were earned in precision pistol shooting, including a team event involving other law-enforcement representatives.
The exact disciplines and results underline that this was not a single-event achievement: both competitors performed across a varied programme that tested strength, technique, fitness and concentration.
A proud moment for Arrecife and Tías
The result is welcome news for Lanzarote residents and visitors who enjoy hearing about the people and communities behind the island’s day-to-day life. Local police officers have demanding roles supporting public safety, and competing at this level also requires commitment to training outside normal working duties.
The European Police and Fire Games offer personnel from public safety and emergency services an opportunity to compete internationally, meet colleagues from other countries and represent their communities through sport. Vigo’s 2026 edition attracted thousands of participants and featured a wide programme of sporting events.
Lanzarote is often associated with beaches, volcanic landscapes and outdoor holidays, but achievements like this also highlight the dedication and sporting talent found within the island’s local communities. The medal haul gives Arrecife and Tías a reason to celebrate and puts Lanzarote in the spotlight for a different reason.
Congratulations to both officers on an outstanding result and for representing Lanzarote on the European stage.
