Lanzarote Road Accident: Man Dies After Vehicle Leaves LZ-2 in Tías

A man has died following a serious road accident on the LZ-2 in the municipality of Tías, Lanzarote, on Monday evening, 21 September 2026.

The incident happened at around 10:16pm on the LZ-2, at approximately kilometre 7. The road is one of the main routes connecting the Lanzarote Airport area with Tías and destinations further south.

According to information released by the Canary Islands Government's emergency coordination service, CECOES 112, a vehicle left the road and overturned. The vehicle also suffered a small fire, which was dealt with by emergency personnel.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. When emergency services arrived, he was found in cardiac arrest and rescue personnel began CPR.

Protection Civil, the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and the Guardia Civil all attended the incident. Fire and rescue personnel assisted with resuscitation efforts until an advanced life-support ambulance arrived.

Despite the efforts of those at the scene, medical staff confirmed that the man had died.

Local reports have identified the deceased as a 30-year-old man. The official emergency statement confirms the fatality and the circumstances of the crash but does not identify the victim.

The Guardia Civil attended the scene and carried out the corresponding report and investigation. Police and emergency services also dealt with the incident at the roadside.

The LZ-2 is regularly used by residents, airport traffic, holidaymakers travelling between resorts and people heading towards southern Lanzarote.

For anyone driving in Lanzarote, this tragic incident is also a reminder of the importance of taking extra care on the island's main roads, particularly at night. The circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the LZ-2 have not been established in the official information released about the accident.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.
