Where did the Lanzarote accident happen?
The collision took place on the LZ-2, close to the entrance to Playa Honda, within the municipality of San Bartolomé.
The LZ-2 is one of the main roads linking the island's central and southern areas with Arrecife and is used by residents, commuters, delivery vehicles and visitors travelling between Lanzarote's resorts and the airport area.
What happened in the Playa Honda collision?
Emergency services were alerted shortly before 7am after reports of a vehicle overturning on the road.
Two vehicles had collided and one of them ended up on its side. The occupant of the overturned vehicle could not get out without assistance, so firefighters were called upon to carry out the rescue.
The emergency response involved Lanzarote's fire and rescue service, the SUC ambulance service and Local Police.
At the time of publication, the official emergency information confirms the injury and the emergency response, but does not give a cause for the collision. It is therefore too early to say what led to the crash.
Advice for drivers in Lanzarote
For tourists hiring a car in Lanzarote and for local drivers, the incident is a reminder that roads around the island can become particularly busy during the morning commute.
Drivers should allow extra time when travelling on the LZ-2, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and adjust speed to traffic and road conditions. Anyone approaching an emergency scene should follow instructions from police and emergency personnel and avoid slowing down unnecessarily to look at an incident.
