Lanzarote’s Hotels Enjoy Strong May as Revenue, Visitor Numbers and Employment All Rise
Lanzarote’s hotel sector enjoyed a positive month in May, with new figures showing increases in revenue, visitor numbers and employment compared with the same period last year. The latest data paints a picture of an island that continues to attract strong demand from holidaymakers while creating more jobs within the tourism industry.
Hotels across the island generated approximately €54 million in revenue during May, representing a 9.8% increase on May 2025.
Around 168,000 visitors stayed in Lanzarote’s hotels during May, an increase of nearly 8% compared with the previous year. Those visitors accounted for almost 949,000 overnight stays, showing that the island remains one of Europe’s most popular year-round holiday destinations.
Interestingly, while visitor numbers increased, overall hotel occupancy was slightly lower than last year. This wasn’t because fewer people came to Lanzarote, but because the island had more hotel beds available, meaning accommodation capacity has continued to expand. With more rooms on offer, occupancy naturally becomes spread across a larger number of properties.
Perhaps one of the most encouraging figures is employment. Hotels employed almost 19% more staff than they did a year earlier, with the workforce growing to more than 10,700 employees. For local residents, this represents continued investment in jobs and confidence within one of Lanzarote’s most important industries.
For tourists planning a visit, the figures reinforce Lanzarote’s popularity as a destination that continues to invest in its hospitality sector. More staff can help improve service levels, while the continued demand for holidays on the island demonstrates why Lanzarote remains a favourite choice for visitors from across Europe.
Tourism continues to be the backbone of Lanzarote’s economy, supporting thousands of local jobs, restaurants, bars, shops and excursion businesses. While discussions around sustainable tourism remain important, these latest figures show that the sector continues to make a significant contribution to the island’s economy while providing employment opportunities for many residents.
