Lanzarote Weather Update: Wind Pre-Alert Issued for Sunday as Heat Warning Continues
Residents and visitors in Lanzarote are being advised to prepare for a windy end to the weekend after the Government of the Canary Islands activated a pre-alert for strong winds across the island for Sunday, 2 August.
The warning comes as high temperatures continue across Lanzarote, with the current yellow weather alert for heat expected to remain in force until Monday, bringing another spell of hot and uncomfortable conditions.
What is expected?
Forecasts indicate that strengthening trade winds will affect many parts of Lanzarote during Sunday. While the strongest gusts are usually experienced in exposed coastal and elevated areas, breezy conditions may be noticeable island-wide.
At the same time, temperatures are expected to remain well above average for the time of year, with some southern and inland areas, including Tías, forecast to reach around 34°C.
Advice for residents and tourists
If you’re spending the weekend in Lanzarote, it’s worth taking a few simple precautions:
- Stay well hydrated throughout the day.
- Avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
- Secure parasols, garden furniture and other loose outdoor items before the winds increase.
- Take extra care on beaches, coastal paths and exposed viewpoints where gusts can be stronger.
- If you’re planning boat trips, watersports or hiking, check with operators for the latest conditions before setting out.
Will holidays be affected?
For most visitors, the weather should not significantly disrupt holiday plans. However, strong winds can occasionally affect:
- Boat excursions.
- Water-based activities.
- Outdoor events.
- Some flights if particularly strong crosswinds develop, although no widespread travel disruption has been announced.
Stay Weather Aware
Weather conditions in the Canary Islands can change quickly, particularly during periods of high temperatures and stronger trade winds. Visitors are encouraged to follow any advice issued by local authorities and to keep an eye on updated forecasts throughout the weekend.
With August now underway, Lanzarote is entering one of its hottest periods of the year, making sun protection and hydration especially important for everyone enjoying the island.
