Lanzarote Welcomed More Than 700,000 Passengers in September: What the Latest Airport Figures Mean
Lanzarote’s airport handled 702,813 passengers in September 2026, around 0.9% fewer than in September 2025, according to figures reported on 13 October. Across the Canary Islands, airports recorded 4,204,223 passengers, also 0.9% lower than a year earlier.
For an island where tourism supports hotels, holiday rentals, restaurants, bars, excursions, taxis and shops, airport traffic is an important indicator. But passenger totals alone do not show how long people stayed, how much they spent or whether every business experienced the same level of demand.
September remains an attractive time to visit Lanzarote. The island’s beaches, volcanic landscapes, warm climate and outdoor activities continue to appeal to travellers who prefer to holiday outside the busiest school-holiday weeks.
The slight year-on-year fall should be seen in context, rather than as proof of a major downturn. Monthly totals can be affected by airline schedules, school-holiday dates, seat capacity and changes in travel demand. Looking at several months alongside accommodation occupancy and other indicators gives a fuller picture.
For residents and local businesses, tourism numbers matter because visitor spending supports employment and services. However, a single month cannot tell the full story of the local economy, and businesses may experience different conditions depending on their location and customer base.
If you are planning an autumn holiday in Lanzarote, check your airline’s latest updates, confirm your airport transfer, and book popular excursions or car hire in advance where possible. Whether you are staying in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise or exploring quieter villages, Lanzarote remains a popular Canary Islands destination.
