Lifeguards Rescue Swimmer in Difficulty at Arrieta Beach
A person who found themselves in difficulty in the sea at Arrieta, in the north of Lanzarote, was brought safely back to shore by local lifeguards on Sunday afternoon, 19 July.
According to information shared by local emergency sources, the incident took place at the beach in Arrieta, in the municipality of Haría, when the individual was identified as being at risk in the water. Lifeguards from REN (Rescate y Emergencia del Norte) responded and carried out the rescue.
The swift intervention highlights once again the important role played by Lanzarote’s lifeguards and emergency services, particularly during the busy summer months when beaches across the island welcome increased numbers of both residents and tourists.
Beach Safety in Lanzarote
While Lanzarote’s beaches are one of the island’s biggest attractions, conditions in the Atlantic Ocean can change quickly. Waves, currents and wind can sometimes create challenging swimming conditions, even on days when the sea may initially appear relatively calm.
Visitors and residents are always advised to pay attention to beach warning flags, follow the instructions of lifeguards and avoid entering the water when conditions are considered unsafe.
The rescue in Arrieta comes during the peak summer season, when many of Lanzarote’s coastal areas are particularly busy. Earlier this year, additional emergency resources were also deployed at La Garita beach in Arrieta during the Easter period to provide greater protection for residents and visitors.
Fortunately, on this occasion, the presence and quick response of the lifeguard team ensured the person could be brought out of danger.
For anyone enjoying Arrieta beach, or any of the many beaches in Lanzarote, the message remains simple: respect the sea, check conditions before swimming and always follow the advice of local lifeguards.
