Man Arrested After Bottle Attack Leaves Two Injured in Arrecife

A man has been arrested in Arrecife following a violent incident in the capital in which one person was struck with a glass bottle and another was injured by broken glass.

Police in Lanzarote arrested the man following an altercation in the Las Rapaduras area of Arrecife, close to Calle León y Castillo, during the morning of Sunday, 13 September.

According to information from the Policía Nacional, officers were nearby at around 8:45am when they became aware of a fight in the area and allegedly witnessed a man striking another person on the head with a glass bottle.

Two people taken to hospital

The bottle strike reportedly caused a significant cut to the injured man’s head. Police said the wound was bleeding heavily and required stitches.

A second man was also hurt when fragments of broken glass entered one of his eyes.

Both injured people received medical attention at the scene before being taken to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Lanzarote for further treatment.

The incident happened in an area of Arrecife known for its bars and nightlife, although the reported confrontation took place during the early morning hours.

Police arrest made at the scene

Police officers intervened to stop the confrontation and arrested the alleged attacker.

According to the information released, the man also allegedly attempted to assault the officers while they were dealing with the incident. He is therefore being investigated in connection with alleged injuries and an alleged offence against authority.

Incident highlights importance of taking care around nightlife areas

Arrecife is popular with both residents and visitors, with the capital offering a mixture of restaurants, bars, entertainment venues and late-night activity.

Incidents such as this are relatively isolated, but they serve as a reminder for people enjoying Lanzarote’s nightlife to remain aware of their surroundings, particularly during the early hours when bars and entertainment areas are closing.

Visitors staying in Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and other parts of Lanzarote should follow normal safety precautions when enjoying the island’s nightlife and avoid becoming involved in confrontations.

The incident is now being dealt with by the relevant authorities.
