Man Injured After House Fire in Máguez, Lanzarote

A man was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a property in Máguez, in the north of Lanzarote, on Monday evening.

Emergency services were called to a property on Calle Las Casillas in Máguez, Haría, shortly after 6pm on Monday, September 7, following reports of a fire in the garage of a house.

The incident resulted in one man suffering moderate burns to a lower limb. He was treated at the scene by medical personnel before being transported by ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife.

Fire breaks out in Máguez garage

The emergency call was received by the Canary Islands 112 emergency coordination centre at 6:03pm.

Firefighters from the Lanzarote emergency and fire service attended the property, where the affected area had already been evacuated when they arrived.

Their work involved putting out the fire before ventilating the property to clear smoke from inside the building. Police officers from the Guardia Civil and Policía Local also attended and assisted with the emergency response.

Reports from local media indicate that a gas cylinder in the garage was involved in the fire. Images released following the incident showed fire damage to parts of the property, including the interior and exterior of the building.

Paramedics assessed the injured man at the scene and found that he had suffered burns to his lower limb.

His injuries were classified as moderate, and he was subsequently taken by basic life-support ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for further medical treatment.

Emergency services respond quickly

The incident brought together several emergency services, including:

  • Lanzarote firefighters
  • Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC)
  • Policía Local
  • Guardia Civil

The authorities also began the relevant report into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At present, the incident appears to have been contained to the property, with no indication in the official emergency-service report of wider disruption in Máguez.

Fire safety reminder for Lanzarote homes

House fires can develop extremely quickly, particularly where gas cylinders or other fuel sources are present.

For anyone living in or visiting Lanzarote, a few basic precautions can make an important difference. Gas cylinders should be stored and used correctly, ventilation should never be blocked, and any suspected gas leak should be treated as an emergency.

If you see a fire or believe there is an immediate danger, move away from the area and contact 112, the emergency number used throughout the Canary Islands.

A quiet part of northern Lanzarote sees emergency response

Máguez is a small rural settlement in the municipality of Haría, surrounded by the volcanic landscape of northern Lanzarote. Incidents such as this can be particularly challenging in rural areas, making a rapid response from local emergency services especially important.

The fire is another reminder that while Lanzarote is known for its relaxed lifestyle, sunshine and peaceful villages, emergencies can happen anywhere on the island.

We wish the injured man a speedy recovery.
