Man Rescued After Falling onto Rocks in Playa Blanca
A man was taken to hospital after suffering head injuries and other injuries following a fall onto rocks beside the seafront promenade in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, Lanzarote.
The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday, 5 August, when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112) received reports that someone had fallen into a rocky coastal area close to the promenade.
Emergency services quickly responded, with firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, ambulance crews from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the Guardia Civil, and Yaiza Local Police all attending the scene.
Because the man had fallen into an area of rocks and large concrete sea defences, firefighters carried out a rescue operation before paramedics were able to assess his injuries. According to emergency services, he had suffered a significant blow to the head along with multiple cuts and other moderate injuries.
After receiving treatment at the scene, the 35-year-old was transported by medicalised ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife for further medical care.
Safety Reminder for Visitors and Residents
Lanzarote’s coastline is one of the island’s biggest attractions, but areas around rocky shores, sea walls and concrete breakwaters can become hazardous, particularly after dark or during rough sea conditions. Visitors are encouraged to stay on designated walkways, avoid climbing onto coastal rocks and always take extra care when walking near the ocean.
Emergency services regularly respond to accidents along the island’s coastline, and officials continue to remind both residents and tourists to respect warning signs and changing sea conditions.
