Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Car in Costa Teguise

A 38-year-old man has suffered a serious leg injury after being struck by a vehicle in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

The incident happened at approximately 6:02pm on 27 August 2026, when emergency services received a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle on Avenida Islas Canarias.

The location is one of the main roads through Costa Teguise, an area popular with both local residents and visitors to Lanzarote.

Emergency services attend Costa Teguise accident

Following the emergency call, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112) coordinated the response.

A medicalised ambulance from the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) was sent to the scene, together with members of the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium and the Local Police.

Medical staff treated the injured man at the scene and found that he had sustained a serious fracture to a lower limb.

Firefighters also assisted medical personnel in stabilising the casualty before he could be transported from the scene.

He was subsequently taken by medicalised ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, the main hospital serving Lanzarote.

Police investigate circumstances of collision

The Local Police attended the incident and began the appropriate proceedings to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

At this stage, no further details have been released about exactly how the accident happened or whether any other people were injured.

The available emergency-service information confirms that the pedestrian suffered a serious lower-limb fracture, but does not provide further details about the vehicle involved or the circumstances leading up to the impact.

Costa Teguise road safety reminder

The incident is a reminder of the importance of taking extra care around roads in Costa Teguise and across Lanzarote, particularly during busy periods when the island has large numbers of visitors.

Costa Teguise combines residential areas with hotels, holiday apartments, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions, meaning pedestrians and vehicles regularly share busy roads throughout the resort.

For visitors hiring a car in Lanzarote, it is particularly important to remain alert to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users, while anyone walking around Costa Teguise should use designated crossings wherever possible and remain aware of approaching traffic.

The circumstances surrounding this Costa Teguise traffic accident remain under investigation. Further information may become available once the police proceedings have progressed.
