Molina Orosa Hospital Receives High Patient Satisfaction Rating

The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital in Arrecife has once again received strong praise from patients, achieving an overall satisfaction score of 8.85 out of 10 in the Canary Islands’ latest Hospital Discharge Satisfaction Survey. The results highlight the quality of care being delivered to both local residents and the thousands of visitors who rely on Lanzarote’s healthcare services each year.

For anyone planning a holiday in Lanzarote, or for those who call the island home, the survey provides reassurance that the island’s main public hospital continues to perform well across a wide range of services.

Survey Based on 405 Patients

The annual survey gathered feedback from 405 patients who had recently been discharged from hospital. It measures how patients felt about their treatment, communication with healthcare professionals, respect for privacy and the overall quality of their hospital stay.

The majority of respondents were aged between 50 and 69 years, with around two-thirds having been admitted through the Emergency Department. Most patients stayed in hospital for fewer than five days. The survey also included responses from international patients, with questionnaires completed in English, German and French, reflecting Lanzarote’s international community and tourism industry.

Psychiatry Rated Highest

Among the hospital’s specialist departments, Psychiatry achieved the highest patient rating with 9.65 out of 10. Other highly-rated departments included:

  • Traumatology – 9.33
  • Oncology – 9.31
  • Neurology – 9.20

The hospital’s Short Stay Psychiatry Unit also received one of the highest scores among inpatient wards, alongside Traumatology and Oncohaematology.

Patients Praise Staff and Professional Care

One of the strongest messages from the survey was the appreciation shown towards hospital staff.

According to the results:

  • 98% rated medical care as good or very good.
  • 98% gave positive ratings to nursing staff.
  • Nearly 98% praised the professionalism of hospital orderlies.
  • 97% were satisfied with the assistance provided by administrative staff.

The findings suggest that patient experience continues to be a major focus for the hospital, with both clinical treatment and customer care receiving consistently high scores.

Respect for Privacy and Good Communication

Privacy remains one of the hospital’s highest-rated areas.

Almost every patient surveyed said their privacy was respected throughout their stay, while most also felt they received clear explanations about their condition, tests and treatment before giving consent for procedures.

Patients also reported receiving useful discharge advice, helping them understand how to continue their recovery after leaving hospital.

Positive Results for Maternity and Children’s Care

The survey also highlighted excellent feedback from maternity and paediatric patients.

Women giving birth at Molina Orosa reported very high satisfaction with the care received, while almost all new mothers said they were provided with information about newborn care and breastfeeding.

Families whose children stayed in the paediatric department also expressed complete satisfaction with the time they were able to spend together during admission.

Good News for Tourists Visiting Lanzarote

For many visitors, access to reliable healthcare is an important part of choosing a holiday destination.

Molina Orosa Hospital is Lanzarote’s principal public hospital and regularly treats both residents and international visitors. The inclusion of multilingual surveys demonstrates the hospital’s ongoing commitment to serving patients from different countries.

Whether you’re visiting Lanzarote for a short holiday or living on the island permanently, the latest patient satisfaction figures provide encouraging evidence that healthcare standards remain high.

A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Hospital managers say the annual satisfaction survey plays an important role in identifying strengths while also highlighting areas where services can continue to improve.
