New Public Terrace Opens at Arrecife’s Parque Temático as Families Enjoy ‘Tardeos Arrecife’

Arrecife has welcomed a new outdoor public terrace at the Parque Temático, creating another family-friendly space in the capital just a short distance from El Reducto.

The new terrace officially opened on Thursday, 27 August, attracting hundreds of families and marking a significant step in the ongoing recovery of the Parque Temático area.

The Ayuntamiento de Arrecife describes it as the first public terrace of its kind in Lanzarote, with the newly improved space designed to provide an informal place for residents and visitors to relax, eat and enjoy entertainment close to the coast.

A new family leisure spot in Arrecife

The terrace has been created in the plaza area of the Parque Temático Arrecife, next to a recently renovated children’s playground.

The area now includes outdoor tables, stools and large tropical-style umbrellas, providing additional space for people to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Public toilets have also been refurbished and reopened, including an adapted facility for people with reduced mobility.

The children’s play area has also been upgraded, including equipment designed to make it more accessible to children with reduced mobility.

For families looking for things to do in Arrecife, Lanzarote, the combination of the playground, outdoor seating and nearby coastline gives the area a new option for spending time together, particularly during the warmer summer evenings.

‘Tardeos Arrecife’ brings music and food to the Parque Temático

To coincide with the opening, Arrecife’s Department of Commerce and Tourism has launched ‘Tardeos Arrecife’, a programme combining live music, DJs, family entertainment and food.

The three-day opening programme runs from 6:30pm until 11:30pm, from Thursday 27 August through Saturday 29 August.

A number of local performers and DJs are taking part across the programme, with the event providing a relaxed early-evening alternative for families and anyone wanting to enjoy live entertainment in Arrecife without heading to a traditional nightlife venue.

Food options are also part of the plans, with the council highlighting a range of food vendors operating from the Parque Temático area.

An area undergoing a major transformation

The new terrace is part of a much wider effort to bring the Parque Temático Arrecife back into regular use following years when parts of the site had fallen into disrepair.

The municipality says it has continued working on improvements to the surrounding area, including the public toilets, access points and children’s facilities.

There are also bigger plans for the future.

The council has received approval from the relevant coastal authority for a major redevelopment of the 37,550-square-metre Parque Temático site. Plans include additional sporting facilities, an outdoor cinema, an outdoor gym, children’s play areas, shaded spaces and a dog park. The municipality currently expects the project to go to tender in 2027.

Another option for visitors exploring Arrecife

For tourists staying in Lanzarote, the Parque Temático is located close to the El Reducto area and offers an opportunity to combine an evening walk with food and entertainment.

It also adds another family-friendly attraction to Arrecife, which has been developing its restaurant, leisure and public spaces in recent years.

For local residents, the reopening is perhaps even more significant. Rather than being an area simply passed through, the Parque Temático is being repositioned as a place where people can meet, enjoy outdoor activities and spend an evening.

With further improvements planned, this could be the beginning of a much bigger transformation for one of Arrecife’s coastal leisure areas.
