Playa Blanca Unveils 65 New Free Parking Spaces as Major Road Improvement Project Progresses
Drivers visiting Playa Blanca now have more free parking available after Yaiza Town Council opened a newly completed section of Avenida Papagayo, creating 65 new angled parking spaces in one of Lanzarote’s busiest tourist areas.
The additional parking forms part of a wider €2.6 million investment to modernise Avenida Papagayo, improving traffic flow, pedestrian safety and accessibility for both residents and the thousands of tourists who visit Playa Blanca each year.
Easier Parking in Playa Blanca
The newly opened section stretches between Iglesia del Carmen and Calle Maciot. Alongside the new parking bays, the road has been converted into a one-way street heading towards Las Coloradas, making it easier for motorists to park and leave safely while helping reduce congestion in the town centre.
For many visitors, especially during the busy holiday season, finding parking in Playa Blanca can be challenging. The new spaces are expected to ease pressure on surrounding streets while providing more convenient access to shops, restaurants and the seafront.
More Parking Still to Come
The current improvements are only the first stage of the project.
According to Yaiza Town Council, work will continue with:
- Construction of 35 additional free parking spaces behind Iglesia del Carmen, including a loading and unloading area.
- A much larger 300-space public car park planned on municipal land opposite the Princesa Yaiza Hotel.
- Further resurfacing, wider pavements and accessibility improvements along Avenida Papagayo.
Once completed, the redevelopment will extend all the way to the Ciudad Jardín roundabout near Las Coloradas.
Improving Accessibility for Everyone
As well as increasing parking capacity, the project includes:
- New and improved pavements.
- Better access for people with reduced mobility.
- Removal of architectural barriers.
- Road resurfacing.
- Improved pedestrian safety along one of Playa Blanca’s busiest roads.
These improvements aim to make moving around Playa Blanca easier for residents, holidaymakers and local businesses alike.
Good News for Residents and Visitors
The additional parking is likely to be welcomed by anyone visiting the resort, particularly during peak tourist periods when demand for parking is high. Businesses in the town centre are also expected to benefit from improved accessibility and a smoother traffic flow.
Although some disruption will continue while later phases are completed, the long-term goal is to create a more modern, accessible and visitor-friendly centre for one of Lanzarote’s most popular holiday destinations.
