Tías Opens 2026 Municipal Tax Payment Period – What Property Owners Need to Know

Property owners in Tías, Lanzarote, are being reminded that the 2026 voluntary municipal tax payment period is about to begin, giving residents the opportunity to settle a range of local taxes without incurring late payment surcharges.

According to Tías Town Hall, the voluntary payment period will run from 20 August until 20 October 2026. During this time, taxpayers can pay their bills online or in person, while those who have already set up direct debit can benefit from additional advantages.

Which Taxes Are Included?

The voluntary payment period covers several of the municipality’s most common local taxes and fees, including:

  • IBI (Property Tax)
  • IVTM (Vehicle or Road Tax)
  • IAE (Business Activities Tax)
  • Household and commercial waste collection fees
  • Driveway and permanent parking access permits (Vados)
  • ATM installation fees
  • Public space occupation fees, including terraces with tables and chairs

If these taxes are not paid before the voluntary period ends, the debt enters the enforcement stage, where additional surcharges and collection costs may apply.

Easy Online Payments Available

Tías Town Hall says residents with a digital certificate can download and pay their tax bills through the municipality’s online Electronic Office, removing the need to visit council offices in person.

Those who prefer face-to-face assistance can still pay at the appropriate municipal offices during the collection period.

Interest-Free Payment Plans

One of the schemes that continues to benefit residents is the council’s personalised interest-free payment plan, introduced several years ago.

These payment plans allow eligible taxpayers to spread the cost of their municipal taxes across manageable instalments instead of paying everything at once.

5% Discount for Direct Debit

Property owners who arrange for their municipal taxes to be paid by direct debit before the collection period begins can receive a 5% reduction on eligible municipal taxes.

The council is also reminding residents that applications for direct debit discounts and personalised payment plans for future tax years generally need to be submitted before the end of December.

Important Dates to Remember

For taxpayers who already pay by direct debit:

  • Most municipal taxes are scheduled to be collected on 4 September 2026.
  • IBI and IAE direct debit payments are expected to be collected on 5 October 2026.

Residents should ensure sufficient funds are available in their bank accounts on the relevant collection dates.

Why This Matters

Municipal taxes help fund many of the essential services used by both residents and visitors across Tías, including road maintenance, waste collection, public spaces, local infrastructure and community services.

Paying within the voluntary period not only avoids unnecessary penalties but can also provide savings for those using direct debit or payment plans.
