Three Injured in Late-Night Lanzarote Road Accident Near Puerto del Carmen

A serious road traffic accident on one of Lanzarote’s busiest routes has left three people injured after a collision involving two vehicles near Puerto del Carmen.

Emergency services were called to the LZ-40 road, close to the Rancho Texas area, following reports of a crash late on Friday evening. According to emergency responders, the incident involved two vehicles and required a coordinated response from firefighters, medical teams and police officers. One woman had to be rescued from a vehicle after becoming trapped following the collision.

Emergency Response at the Scene

Firefighters arriving at the scene discovered one vehicle had struck a roadside safety barrier. Medical personnel were already treating the driver when emergency crews arrived.

A second vehicle involved in the collision was located a short distance away. Rescue teams carried out a technical extraction operation to free a passenger who was unable to leave the vehicle independently. The driver of the second car managed to exit before emergency services arrived and was also treated by paramedics.

All three casualties received medical attention before being transported for further assessment.

Traffic Safety Remains a Key Concern in Lanzarote

The accident comes during a period of heightened discussion about road safety across Lanzarote. Recent incidents on several major roads, including the LZ-2, LZ-30 and LZ-40, have renewed calls for infrastructure improvements and increased driver awareness. Local emergency officials have highlighted growing traffic volumes, particularly during peak tourist periods, as a challenge for road safety on the island.

For both residents and visitors, authorities continue to stress the importance of driving cautiously, maintaining safe distances and remaining alert on roads that can become congested during holiday seasons.

Advice for Tourists Driving in Lanzarote

Many visitors choose to explore Lanzarote by rental car, making road safety especially important. Drivers should:

  • Observe local speed limits.
  • Take extra care on unfamiliar roads.
  • Avoid distractions while driving.
  • Allow additional braking distance at night.
  • Remain cautious near busy tourist areas such as Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.

Lanzarote’s road network is generally well maintained, but increasing traffic levels mean drivers should remain vigilant, particularly during evenings and weekends.

Ongoing Investigation

Police attended the scene to secure the area, manage traffic and prepare the official accident report. The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.
