Timanfaya Introduces New Booking Rules: Here’s What Visitors Need to Know
Visitors planning a trip to Timanfaya National Park this summer should be aware of an important change that affects access to one of Lanzarote’s most popular attractions.
From 15 June 2026, Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) began operating with a new timed-entry reservation system. The move has been introduced by the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) to help manage visitor numbers, reduce long traffic queues and improve the overall experience for those visiting the park.
For years, long queues on the approach road to Timanfaya have been a common sight, particularly during peak holiday periods. Visitors could often find themselves waiting for extended periods before reaching the entrance. The new booking system is designed to spread arrivals more evenly throughout the day while helping to protect Lanzarote’s unique volcanic landscape.
What Has Changed?
Under the new system, visitors are now encouraged to book a specific entry time before arriving.
When purchasing tickets online, guests select their preferred date and available time slot. Entry is then linked to that reservation, with visitor numbers controlled throughout the day. Availability will depend on demand and the park’s daily capacity.
How Do You Book?
Booking is straightforward and can be completed online through the official Timanfaya ticketing platform:
Official booking website:
https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com/en/tickets/montanas-del-fuego-timanfaya-ticket
The booking process involves:
- Selecting your preferred visit date.
- Checking available entry times.
- Choosing your preferred slot.
- Purchasing your ticket online.
- Arriving approximately 15 minutes before your scheduled entry time for ticket validation.
What Happens If You Don’t Book?
While availability may occasionally exist on the day, visitors travelling during busy periods could find their preferred times unavailable or fully booked.
Anyone planning to visit during school holidays, summer months, cruise ship days or public holidays is advised to reserve in advance to avoid disappointment.
What Is Included In The Visit?
A standard ticket includes:
- Access to the famous geothermal demonstrations.
- The Volcano Route coach tour through the volcanic landscape.
- Entry to the Islote de Hilario visitor area.
- Access to the viewpoints and facilities at Montañas del Fuego.
Camel rides remain a separate attraction and are not included with park admission.
Top Tips Before You Go
- Book as early as possible during peak season.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before your allocated time.
- Bring water, sunscreen and a hat, especially during the summer months.
- Allow around 1 to 1.5 hours for the visit.
- Consider combining your trip with nearby attractions such as La Geria, El Golfo or Los Hervideros for a full day exploring Lanzarote’s volcanic south.
Final Word
Timanfaya remains one of the most spectacular attractions in the Canary Islands and a must-see for first-time visitors to Lanzarote. While the new booking system means a little more planning is required, it should help reduce queues and create a smoother experience for everyone visiting the island’s most famous volcanic landscape.
