TWO CARS OVERTURN IN SEPARATE LANZAROTE CRASHES ON THE SAME AFTERNOON
Two separate road traffic incidents involving overturned cars brought emergency services to different parts of Lanzarote on Wednesday, 21 October, with crews responding in Tinajo and on the road between Tías and San Bartolomé.
The incidents happened on two well-used island routes and prompted the involvement of firefighters, ambulance crews and local police, alongside the Guardia Civil.
CAR OVERTURNS NEAR LA VEGUETA, TINAJO
The first incident was reported on the LZ-46 near La Vegueta, close to Las Cadenas park in the municipality of Tinajo. A vehicle had left the road and overturned, leaving its occupant trapped inside.
Firefighters from Lanzarote’s emergency and rescue service attended and worked with medical staff to stabilise the vehicle and free the driver. The man had suffered multiple injuries described by the Canary Islands Government as moderate. He was treated at the scene and transported by a medical ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife.
A second ambulance and officers from the Guardia Civil and local police also took part in the response.
SECOND ROLLOVER ON THE LZ-35
Later, emergency crews were called to another overturned vehicle on the LZ-35, the road connecting Tías and San Bartolomé, near Parque Central.
The car was found resting on its roof. Its driver, who was the only occupant, had managed to get out before the emergency teams arrived and did not require medical treatment. Firefighters returned the vehicle to its wheels and helped make the road safe, while police managed traffic during the operation.
A REMINDER FOR PEOPLE DRIVING IN LANZAROTE
These were separate incidents, and no cause has been confirmed in the information released publicly. The crashes are a timely reminder for residents and visitors to take care on Lanzarote’s roads, including rural routes and stretches connecting towns.
Drivers should keep a safe speed for the road and conditions, leave plenty of space between vehicles, avoid distractions and wear seatbelts on every journey. Visitors hiring a car should take time to familiarise themselves with the vehicle and local road signs before setting off.
If you come across a collision, stop only where it is safe to do so, avoid putting yourself or others at risk, and call 112 in an emergency in the Canary Islands.
The condition of the injured man was described as moderate in the official update. No further details about the causes of either crash had been confirmed in the reports reviewed.
