VEHICLE FIRE IN LA GERIA PROMPTS NIGHT-TIME EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on Lanzarote’s LZ-30 road near Bodegas La Geria on Saturday evening, 31 October, after a second emergency incident in the municipality of Yaiza.

The incident took place at approximately 10:29pm, when the emergency services received a report of a vehicle on fire at kilometre 19 of the LZ-30, close to the well-known La Geria winery area.

Fire crews from the Parque Sur fire station attended the scene and found the vehicle engulfed in flames. They worked to bring the fire under control using water, followed by a wetting agent applied through a ProPak system to complete the extinguishing operation.

Local Police and the Guardia Civil also attended the incident.

Once the flames had been extinguished, firefighters checked the area and confirmed that there was no remaining risk of the vehicle catching fire again. The operation was then brought to a close.

No information about the cause of the fire or any injuries was included in the report available at the time of writing.

A busy evening for emergency services in Yaiza

The vehicle fire was the second fire-related call-out for emergency services in Yaiza that evening. Earlier, at around 8:10pm, firefighters had attended a fire involving two recycling containers in Calle Europa, Playa Blanca.

The two incidents required separate responses from the island’s emergency teams, highlighting the work carried out by Lanzarote’s fire service in supporting residents and visitors across the municipality.

What drivers should know

The LZ-30 is a scenic route through Lanzarote’s famous La Geria wine-growing landscape, often used by visitors exploring the island’s wineries and volcanic countryside.

Drivers travelling through the area should always follow instructions from emergency personnel and avoid stopping close to an incident unless directed to do so. If you witness a fire or another emergency in Lanzarote, call 112, the Canary Islands emergency number.

This article is based on information published by Lanzarote emergency and local news sources. The cause of the vehicle fire has not been confirmed.
