Two-Year-Old Girl Safely Rescued After Being Locked Inside Car in Playa Honda
A two-year-old girl was safely rescued after becoming accidentally locked inside a car in Playa Honda on Monday evening, with emergency crews carrying out a swift operation that ended without injury.
The incident happened on Calle Pino Cuervo in the municipality of San Bartolomé. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 6:00pm, prompting the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Emergency Consortium Firefighters to respond alongside the Local Police.
On arrival, firefighters quickly assessed the situation and used specialist non-destructive entry equipment to unlock the vehicle. This method allowed them to gain access without damaging the car while ensuring the child could be reached as quickly and safely as possible.
Fortunately, the young girl was found to be in good health and did not require treatment from medical teams. After confirming that she was safe, emergency responders concluded the incident and returned to service.
A Timely Reminder for Parents and Drivers
While incidents like this are uncommon, they can happen in just a few moments, especially if keys are accidentally left inside a vehicle or automatic locking systems activate unexpectedly.
With Lanzarote’s warm climate, temperatures inside parked vehicles can rise rapidly, even when outside temperatures feel comfortable. Anyone who notices a child or pet appearing distressed inside a locked vehicle should immediately contact the emergency services by calling 112.
Keeping a spare key accessible, checking that keys are always in hand before closing doors, and avoiding leaving children unattended in vehicles—even briefly—can help prevent similar situations.
The rapid response from Lanzarote’s emergency services ensured that what could have become a serious incident ended safely, with the child reunited with her family within minutes.
