Vehicle Fire in Playa Blanca: Emergency Crews Respond Overnight
A vehicle was completely destroyed by fire in Playa Blanca during the early hours of Wednesday, 14 October, prompting a response from Lanzarote’s emergency services.
The incident took place at around 1:20am in the Virginia Park residential area, on Calle India, in the municipality of Yaiza. Local Police officers on patrol spotted the fire and alerted firefighters.
Firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium arrived to find a Citroën Berlingo engulfed in flames. They used sprayed water followed by firefighting foam to bring the blaze under control.
Neighbours helped prevent further damage
According to information released by the emergency services, residents said they had heard noises nearby. They raised the alarm and moved vehicles parked close to the burning van, helping to reduce the risk of the flames and intense heat spreading to other vehicles.
Local Police and the Guardia Civil were also present. The emergency services have confirmed that surveillance cameras in the area are directed towards the vehicles. The Guardia Civil is investigating to establish what happened.
At this stage, the cause of the fire has not been confirmed. It would therefore be premature to speculate about whether it was accidental or deliberate. Any conclusions will depend on the investigation.
