Woman Seriously Injured After Vehicle Overturns Near Tías Junction in Lanzarote

A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic accident at the junction of the LZ-501 and LZ-2 roads near Los Lirios in the municipality of Tías on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:30pm, after reports that a vehicle had left the road, overturned and come to rest around two metres below the carriageway.

Driver Trapped Inside Overturned Vehicle

According to information released by the emergency services, the impact left the driver trapped inside the vehicle after being thrown across to the passenger side during the rollover.

Firefighters from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium worked to free the woman before paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) could begin treatment at the scene.

Medical teams assessed the driver and confirmed she had suffered serious multiple injuries. Once stabilised, she was transported by a Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulance to Dr José Molina Orosa University Hospital in Arrecife for further treatment.

Emergency Services Responded Quickly

Several emergency teams attended the incident, including:

  • Lanzarote firefighters
  • Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC)
  • Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Basic Life Support ambulance
  • Civil Guard Traffic officers

The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

Advice for Drivers in Lanzarote

Although the exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, the incident is another reminder for both Lanzarote residents and visitors to remain vigilant while driving on the island’s roads.

Many of Lanzarote’s rural junctions and secondary roads require extra care, particularly during busy holiday periods when traffic volumes increase significantly. Visitors hiring a car should always allow extra stopping distance, take care at junctions and roundabouts, and remain aware of local road layouts.

Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.
