Woman Taken to Hospital After Arrecife Road Traffic Incident

A woman was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Arrecife, prompting an emergency response from the Canary Islands’ emergency services.

The incident happened at approximately 9:20am on 12 August, with the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 receiving reports that a pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a vehicle in the island’s capital.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended the scene to assess and treat the injured woman before transporting her by ambulance to Hospital Universitario Doctor José Molina Orosa for further medical care. According to the initial medical assessment, she suffered injuries that required hospital treatment, although emergency services have not released further details about her condition.

Officers from the Local Police also attended the incident, securing the area and carrying out the initial investigation to establish exactly how the collision occurred. As is standard procedure following road traffic incidents involving pedestrians, the circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.

Pedestrian collisions are relatively uncommon in Lanzarote, but they serve as a reminder for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant, particularly during busy morning periods when traffic levels are higher around Arrecife.

Authorities have not released the identity of the woman involved, and no further information has been provided regarding the driver or whether any charges or enforcement action will follow.

Road Safety in Arrecife

Arrecife is one of Lanzarote’s busiest urban areas, with a mix of traffic, pedestrians and cyclists sharing the roads every day. Visitors unfamiliar with local roads are encouraged to take extra care when driving, especially near pedestrian crossings, schools and shopping areas. Likewise, pedestrians should always use designated crossings where possible and remain alert, even when they have priority.
