Worker Injured After Falling Three Metres at Playa Blanca Construction Site
A worker has been taken to hospital after falling approximately three metres at a construction site in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, in an accident that required firefighters to carry out a specialist rescue.
The incident happened on the morning of Saturday, 22 August 2026, at a construction site on Calle La Calera in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza.
Emergency services were alerted at around 9:33am following reports of a workplace accident involving a person who had fallen from height.
Firefighters called to assist with rescue
The worker was located on an upper level of the construction site, approximately three metres above ground.
According to information from the emergency services, it was not possible to safely bring him down using the site’s normal staircase. The Consorcio de Seguridad y Emergencias de Lanzarote was therefore called in to assist with the evacuation.
Once firefighters arrived, medical personnel assessed the injured worker and firefighters placed him on a vacuum mattress, a device used to help immobilise and safely move injured people.
Because of the difficulty accessing the area, an aerial ladder (autoescala) was used to lower the worker to ground level.
He was then transferred to an ambulance operated by the Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) and taken to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for medical treatment.
Several emergency services involved
The response involved several emergency and security services, including the Lanzarote emergency services, SUC, Guardia Civil and Policía Local de Yaiza, as well as personnel from the construction site.
At present, no further details have been released publicly about the workers condition following the hospital transfer.
The incident is another reminder of the risks associated with working at height, particularly within the construction industry.
Falls from height can result in serious injuries even from relatively modest distances, which is why construction sites in Lanzarote, as elsewhere in Spain, operate under workplace health and safety requirements designed to reduce the risk of accidents.
The circumstances surrounding this particular accident have not been publicly detailed, and there has been no official indication in the information currently available of what caused the fall.
