Worker Injured in Machine Accident at Hotel Costa Calero Taken to Hospital
A worker was taken to hospital on Tuesday morning after suffering a workplace accident involving machinery at a hotel in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote.
Emergency services were called to Hotel Costa Calero at approximately 9:50am after reports that an employee had trapped a finger in an electric pallet truck. The incident triggered a coordinated response from the Canary Islands’ emergency services, firefighters, ambulance crews and the Guardia Civil.
Emergency Services Respond Quickly
According to information released by emergency authorities, firefighters from the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Emergency Consortium were dispatched after the alert was received through the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 112).
While emergency crews were travelling to the hotel, they were informed that the worker’s finger had already been freed from the machine. Despite this, the injuries required urgent medical assessment and treatment.
On arrival, firefighters and medical personnel provided first aid before the injured employee was transferred by ambulance to Hospital Universitario Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for further treatment. Authorities have not released details about the severity of the injuries or the worker’s current condition.
Guardia Civil Opens Investigation
The Guardia Civil also attended the scene and has begun the standard investigation into the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident.
As with many industrial incidents in Spain, investigators are expected to examine how the accident occurred, whether safety procedures were being followed, and whether any additional measures may be needed to help prevent similar incidents in the future. At this stage, no further information has been released regarding the cause of the accident.
Workplace Safety in Lanzarote
Although Lanzarote is best known as one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations, thousands of residents work in the island’s tourism, hospitality and logistics sectors every day. Hotels frequently rely on equipment such as electric pallet trucks and lifting machinery to move supplies efficiently, making regular maintenance, staff training and adherence to health and safety procedures essential.
Fortunately, incidents of this nature remain relatively uncommon, but they serve as a reminder of the importance of workplace safety across the island’s tourism industry.
