Yaiza Repairs Papagayo Access Roads Ahead of Busy Summer Season
Visitors heading to the famous Papagayo Beaches this summer should enjoy a smoother journey after Yaiza Town Hall completed its annual maintenance of the dirt access roads leading to the popular beauty spot.
The work is carried out every year to repair damage caused by the thousands of vehicles that use the unpaved track throughout the tourist season. Heavy traffic, combined with the island’s dry conditions, gradually creates ruts, potholes and uneven surfaces that can make the drive uncomfortable.
Municipal crews have used heavy machinery to level and compact the road, improving driving conditions and helping to reduce dust and erosion. The maintenance is timed to ensure the route is in the best possible condition as visitor numbers increase during the summer holidays.
Papagayo, located within the protected Los Ajaches Natural Monument in the south of Lanzarote, is one of the island’s most visited attractions. Its collection of golden sandy coves and crystal-clear waters attracts thousands of tourists and residents every week, particularly during July and August.
Although the road has now been repaired, drivers are still advised to proceed carefully. The route remains an unpaved track, and conditions can change depending on weather and traffic levels. The access fee to enter the protected natural area also remains in place.
The annual maintenance helps preserve safe access to one of Lanzarote’s most iconic coastal destinations while protecting the surrounding natural environment for future visitors.
