Arrecife to Host 10th Walking Against Cancer March on 18 October 2026
A morning of walking, community and support is coming to Arrecife this October as Lanzarote prepares for the 10th edition of Caminamos con el Cáncer – Walking Against Cancer.
The annual charity walk will take place on Sunday, 18 October 2026, bringing residents, visitors and families together for a simple but meaningful event in support of people affected by cancer and their loved ones.
The event is organised by AFOL, the Association of Families Oncohematological of Lanzarote, together with the Arrecife Town Hall. This year's edition is particularly significant because AFOL is also celebrating its 25th anniversary.
What is the Walking Against Cancer event in Arrecife?
Caminamos con el Cáncer is a family-friendly solidarity walk designed to make participation easy. The 2026 route is less than five kilometres, making it suitable for people of different ages and abilities.
Rather than being a competitive race, the emphasis is on coming together, raising awareness and showing support. For anyone looking for Lanzarote charity events or local events in Arrecife during October, it offers an opportunity to take part in something that has a direct community focus.
Where does the Arrecife cancer charity walk start?
The starting and finishing point for the 2026 walk is the Recinto Ferial in Arrecife.
Participants are due to gather from 9:15am, when the remaining event T-shirts will also be handed out. A manifesto will be read at 10:15am, with the walk scheduled to begin at 10:30am.
The event is expected to create a lively atmosphere around the capital as people come together before setting off on the route.
How much does it cost to take part?
Registration costs €10. The fee includes an event T-shirt and water, with the money raised going entirely to AFOL Lanzarote.
Registrations can be completed online through Tripasión Eventos or in person through AFOL. Anyone planning to attend should check the organisers' latest information before travelling, particularly regarding registration availability and any practical arrangements.
Why is AFOL important to Lanzarote?
AFOL provides support and assistance to people affected by oncohematological illnesses and their families in Lanzarote. The organisation has been working on the island for 25 years, making this year's 10th Caminamos con el Cáncer especially noteworthy.
Events such as this do more than raise money. They also give the wider community a chance to show solidarity with patients and families and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living with cancer.
A Lanzarote event for residents and visitors
Although the walk is rooted in the local community, visitors staying in Arrecife or elsewhere on Lanzarote can also take part. If you are searching for things to do in Lanzarote in October 2026, this is a very different type of island experience: there is no entry requirement based on sporting ability, and the focus is on participation rather than competition.
For residents, it is also a chance to meet friends, bring the family and support an organisation that works with people across the island.
A morning with a bigger message
Walking less than five kilometres may sound simple, but the purpose behind the event is much bigger. Every registration helps support AFOL's work, while the public nature of the march helps keep the conversation around cancer awareness and community support visible.
The 10th edition also marks another chapter in an event that has travelled around different parts of Lanzarote over the years. In 2026, the walk returns to Arrecife, giving the island capital a chance to host this anniversary edition.
If you are in Lanzarote on Sunday, 18 October, the Arrecife Walking Against Cancer March is an opportunity to spend part of your morning outdoors, meet members of the local community and support a worthwhile island charity.
