CANARY ISLANDS FLU VACCINATION 2026: HOW TO BOOK YOUR JAB IN LANZAROTE
Residents across Lanzarote and the wider Canary Islands can now arrange their flu vaccination appointment ahead of the 2026–2027 seasonal campaign. The regional health service says the campaign will begin at health centres across the islands on Monday 19 October, with bookings open from 14 October.
HOW TO BOOK A FLU VACCINATION IN LANZAROTE
People who are eligible can request an appointment by calling 012. Alternative numbers are also available without the additional 012 service charge: 922 470 012 or 928 301 012. If you live in Lanzarote, contact the booking service to confirm the appointment arrangements for your local health centre and whether any additional guidance applies to you.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE 2026 FLU JAB?
The groups identified by the Canary Islands Health Service include:
• People aged 60 and over.
• Children aged from six months to six years.
• Pregnant women and women who have recently given birth.
• People with certain chronic health conditions or weakened immune systems.
• People living in residential or care settings.
• Household members and carers of people who are particularly vulnerable.
• Healthcare, social-care and certain essential workers.
• Some other groups with increased exposure or risk, depending on the official guidance.
Eligibility can depend on individual circumstances, so check with the health service or your healthcare professional if you are unsure whether you qualify.
WHY THE WINTER VACCINATION CAMPAIGN MATTERS
Flu can be more than an unpleasant seasonal illness, particularly for older adults, very young children, pregnant women and people with underlying health conditions. Vaccination does not guarantee that someone will avoid infection, but health authorities say it can reduce the risk of serious complications, hospitalisation and death among people at greater risk.
This year's wider seasonal programme also includes measures against other respiratory infections for specified vulnerable groups. The exact vaccine offered will depend on age, medical circumstances and the official recommendations.
WHAT SHOULD LANZAROTE RESIDENTS DO NEXT?
If you believe you are eligible, book through the official telephone service and ask what you need to bring to your appointment. Do not assume that every resident is automatically included in the same group or that the flu vaccine is offered on identical terms to every age group. Anyone with questions about their personal medical circumstances should speak to their doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
Tourists staying in Lanzarote who are considering vaccination should seek advice from their own healthcare provider or insurer and check what services are available to them locally. Availability and eligibility may differ for visitors compared with people registered with the Spanish health service.
The campaign is currently scheduled to run until 31 December 2026, although the regional health authority says it may be extended to 31 March 2027 depending on how respiratory viruses develop during the season.
