Container Fire in Arrecife Raises Concerns After Flames Spread to Telephone Cables
Firefighters were called to a container fire in Arrecife on Friday 17th July after flames reportedly spread to overhead telephone cables, prompting an emergency response in the Lanzarote capital.
The incident took place on Ramón Franco Street in Arrecife, where emergency crews arrived to find that the fire had already affected a nearby cardboard storage cage and was spreading towards telephone cables above the area.
Firefighters quickly worked to bring the blaze under control, establishing a fire line and using water to successfully extinguish the flames.
Once the fire had been put out, crews remained at the scene to carry out further safety procedures. These included removing and cooling affected materials and inspecting the surrounding area to ensure there were no remaining hot spots that could cause the fire to reignite.
Local Police officers were already at the scene when firefighters arrived and had secured the area. National Police officers also attended and assisted with maintaining safety around the incident.
No injuries have been reported in the information available at the time of writing.
The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly fires involving rubbish, cardboard and other combustible materials can spread, particularly when they occur close to buildings, vehicles or overhead infrastructure.
