The crash happened at around 4am on Avenida Campoamor, in the village of Tahíche in the municipality of Teguise. Emergency teams were alerted and Civil Guard officers, firefighters and an ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended the scene.
The driver was still inside the vehicle when responders arrived, but she was not trapped. Medical staff assessed her at the scene, after which she was able to get out of the car without assistance. She was then taken by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife. The extent of her injuries has not been publicly confirmed in the reports available.
Firefighters made the vehicle safe by disconnecting its battery and clearing it from the road. The Civil Guard helped manage traffic and prepared the official report into the incident.
The incident is a reminder for both residents and visitors to take care on Lanzarote’s roads, particularly when driving during the early hours, when visibility and tiredness can affect concentration. Anyone hiring a car in Lanzarote should make sure they understand local road signs, keep a safe speed for the conditions and never drive when tired or under the influence of alcohol.
There is no indication in the reports that the crash caused a wider ongoing disruption. Drivers passing through Tahíche should nevertheless follow any instructions from emergency personnel and allow space for recovery vehicles when an incident occurs.
