Emergency Rescue After Man Falls Into Underground Cistern at Costa Teguise Construction Site
Firefighters Use Special Equipment to Extract Injured Man From Difficult-to-Reach Area
Emergency services were called to a construction site in Costa Teguise after a man fell into an underground cistern and became trapped below ground level.
The incident occurred on Calle El Hierro, where the man reportedly fell approximately three metres into an empty water tank located within the construction area.
According to emergency responders, the casualty was conscious when rescue teams arrived and was able to communicate with firefighters. Although he escaped serious injury, he complained of pain in one of his arms following the fall.
Complex Rescue Operation
The location of the accident presented a challenge for emergency crews due to the restricted access surrounding the underground structure.
Firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium deployed multiple rescue teams and specialised equipment to safely reach the injured man. A mechanical ladder was brought into position to assist with the extraction process, allowing rescuers to reach the casualty and carefully bring him back to ground level.
Local Police officers from Teguise, Civil Guard personnel and a medicalised ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) also attended the scene.
Following the rescue, medical personnel assessed the man’s condition before deciding whether further hospital treatment would be required.
Growing Development Across Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise continues to see significant investment in new residential, hotel and commercial developments as demand for property and tourism facilities grows across Lanzarote.
While new projects contribute to the local economy, incidents such as this serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining strict safety procedures on active construction sites.
Emergency services have not released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the fall.
Safety Reminder for Residents and Visitors
Authorities advise residents and visitors not to enter active construction zones under any circumstances.
Even sites that appear inactive may contain deep excavations, unstable surfaces or underground structures capable of causing serious injuries.
The rapid response of firefighters, police officers and medical personnel ensured that the injured man was safely rescued and received prompt medical attention.
