Families in Playa Honda Left Without Water for Nearly a Week After Street Leak
Several families in Playa Honda, Lanzarote, say they have been left without running water for almost a week after a leak in the street reportedly disrupted the local water supply.
According to residents, the problem has continued for six days despite repeated calls to the water company requesting assistance. One family said they had been assured that technicians would attend, but by the sixth day they were still without a reliable water supply.
Daily Life Turned Upside Down
Living without running water has created significant challenges, particularly during the hot August weather.
Residents say they have had to rely on relatives’ homes to wash and use basic facilities. They also reported using a communal hose to fill containers with water, allowing them to carry out only essential tasks.
However, they claim the temporary solution is far from adequate, making everyday activities such as cooking, showering and using toilets extremely difficult.
Families Call for a Faster Response
Those affected say their main frustration is not only the lack of water but the length of time it has taken for the issue to be resolved.
The residents are urging the relevant authorities and water provider to repair the street leak as quickly as possible and restore normal service to the affected homes.
While occasional supply interruptions can occur because of maintenance work or unexpected pipe failures, prolonged outages can have a major impact on households, particularly those with children or elderly family members.
An Ongoing Issue for Some Areas
Water supply issues have occasionally affected different parts of Lanzarote in recent years, often following pipe failures, infrastructure problems or emergency repairs.
For both residents and visitors, access to reliable running water is an essential service, especially during the busy summer months when demand across the island is at its highest.
Authorities have not yet released further public information regarding when the repairs in Playa Honda will be completed.
What Visitors Should Know
At present, this appears to be a localised incident affecting a small number of homes in Playa Honda rather than a widespread water shortage across Lanzarote. Tourists staying elsewhere on the island are unlikely to be affected.
Anyone staying in accommodation within Playa Honda who experiences water supply problems should contact their accommodation provider in the first instance for the latest information.
